Mr Claude Arpi is born in 1949 in Angoulême, France. After graduating as a Dental Surgeon from Bordeaux University, he came to India where he is settled for the past 46 years. For four years, he held the Field Marshal KM Cariappa Chair of Excellence from the United Service Institution of India (USI) for his research on the Indian Presence in Tibet 1947-1962 (in 4 volumes). The last volume, The End of an Era: India Exists Tibet (India Tibet Relations 1947-1962) Part 4 was released on October 16, 2020.
He has worked extensively in the National Archives of India and well in the Nehru Library (Nehru Papers) on the Indian frontiers and particularly the Indian Frontier Administrative Service. He has written more than 2,000 articles in the Indian media on Tibet, Sino-Indian relations, the Indo-Tibet boundary, defence issues and Indo-French relations. He is also the author of several books on Tibet, China and Indo-French relations.
His website carries the largest numbers of historical documents on subjects such as the Indo-China relations, the flight of the Dalai Lama in 1959 and the consequences for India, the 1962 Sino-Indian War, etc. http://www.claudearpi.net/index.php?nav=documents&lang=1.
