The Russia Report | Vol 1 | No 4
The latest developments in Russian foreign and domestic policy underscore Moscow’s strategic efforts to deepen global partnerships and assert its role in international diplomacy. President Vladimir Putin emphasised global interest in space collaboration with Russia and confirmed his participation in SPIEF 2025. Diplomatic engagements included high-level talks with Kazakhstan, Iran, and the U.S., while Russia reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian causes, as seen in its statement about Gaza and assistance to Laos. Moscow also strengthened ties with Latin America and the Caribbean, notably opening an embassy in the Dominican Republic and pursuing trade diplomacy during Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visits to Brazil and the Dominican Republic. In Eurasia, Russia expanded gas cooperation with Uzbekistan and solidified business links with Algeria and Oman. Meanwhile, rising geopolitical tensions were evident as Russia warned NATO against troop deployment to Ukraine and imposed sanctions on UK lawmakers. Nonetheless, Russia expressed readiness for unconditional talks with Ukraine, signaling openness to peace under certain terms.
