In Pakistan, all elections have been fraught with grave irregularities and rigging, with the Army selecting the Government. However, 2024 elections take the cake! In their desire to throw an exceedingly popular Imran Khan and it’s PTI to wolves, they manipulated over a period of two years. Imran khan was jailed for 24 years, as was his wife on a plethora of cases, disbanded PTI and even took their election symbol away.
For the re-found love, Nawaz Sharif, they had the courage exonerate him of charges and allowed to stand.
The election results have been a jolt then. PTI got its candidates stand independently, and they have been hugely successful, nearly breaking even with Nawaz Sharif’s PMLN. At this juncture it seems that Pakistan is heading for a hung assembly and longer time of political upheaval. There is bound to be some horse trading, especially of the independents.
