Mandatory Requirements:
To enrol in the PhD programme, the officer candidates (both serving and retired) need to fulfil the following mandatory requirements: –
- Minimum 15-year service
- Minimum 60% marks in their Post Graduate programme (PG may be in any field).
- Minimum two publications prior to applying for PhD preferably in a field related to available broad subjects for PhD to include online/ book chapters/ journal articles. Preference will be given to publications in journals, the details of which will be made available on the CLAWS website. At CLAWS, articles may be accepted in CLAWS Journal, as Manekshaw Papers and chapters in edited volumes, if found suitable for publication.
- A comprehensive research proposal which is to be forwarded along with the admission application inclusive of research title, literature review, research gaps iden, objectives, detailed methodology to incl research questions, hypotheses and tentative chapterisation, time plan, references and expected outcome. The MAHE format of the Research Proposal is as given below: –
Procedure for Admission in PhD Pgme:
- As per the UGC guidelines and CLAWS-MAHE PhD Pgme MoU, CLAWS will serve as a Research Centre of MAHE. The ‘University Cell’ in CLAWS, shall function as a Research Centre to coordinate all the actions from admissions to the award of PhD degree by MAHE.
- The admissions shall be carried out twice (Jan & Jul) in an academic year. The last dates for submission of admission applications are 31 Oct & 30 Apr respectively. A periodical notification for admission is posted on CLAWS website.
- The admission application along with all the requisite docs as mentioned above shall be fwd to ‘University Cell’ CLAWS, under intimation to respective HQ Command GS/Trg Br.
- Based on the available vacancies, the short listing of the candidates is carried out, on merit, by a ‘Selection and Review Board (SRB)’ at CLAWS Research Centre.
- The applications of the shortlisted candidates along with the recommendations by SRB is forwarded to MAHE for their final approval.
- From Jul 2025 (PhD Batch-7), the complete admission process (post fwd the applications to MAHE) has become online on the MAHE website, and the candidates are guided accordingly.

Note: Ml clearance may also be necessary before submission of the thesis by the officer to MAHE, in conformity with the subject policy, if it is so felt during scrutiny at CLAWS.
