Abstract

The October 2024 disengagement and patrolling agreement between India and China has temporarily eased tensions along the northern border, particularly in Depsang and Demchok. This development follows years of strained relations, significantly marked by the 2020 Galwan clash and the earlier 2017 Doklam standoff. Despite extensive military and diplomatic negotiations leading to this breakthrough, the long-term trajectory of India-China relations remains uncertain. In light of the ongoing border disputes and national security concerns, it is imperative for India to adopt proactive measures to prevent future confrontations.
