Abstract
The strategic environment of international security has drastically changed with the advent of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) systems that can conduct independent cyber operations. One of the most important advancements in AI-driven cybersecurity is Anthropic’s Project Glasswing, introduced in 2026, which allows Large Language Models (LLMs) to independently identify and assess software vulnerabilities across infrastructure ecosystems. Project Glasswing presents issues of cyber sovereignty, technology dependence, military AI vulnerability, and geopolitical imbalance while being publicly presented as a defensive cybersecurity initiative.
The ramifications of Project Glasswing for India’s defence ecosystem are examined in this article, with a focus on the strategic military AI infrastructure and the sovereignty of Indian Military LLMs. The paper makes the case that India’s reliance on foreign semiconductors, frontier AI ecosystems, and cloud infrastructure creates structural vulnerabilities that could jeopardise long-term military autonomy. It does this by taking on recent news, semiconductor supply chain studies, International Relations (IR) theories, sovereign AI literature, and cybersecurity research. To safeguard India’s strategic autonomy in the developing AI-driven security order, the report suggests a sovereignty-centred framework that integrates indigenous AI systems, semiconductor self-reliance, sovereign compute infrastructure, and cyber-defence modernization.
